The way we communicate is a great indicator as to what Enneagram style we fall into. When vocalize our needs we tend to speak at a certain pace, inflect a certain emotion, choose gestures to match our communication, and have a certain tone and pitch to our voices–all in a way that generally fits into to our type within the Enneagram.
Last week we talked about the Style 7 and how they are more animated when they speak, communicating ideas, brainstorming possibilities, and looking for someone on the receiving end to match their tone, pitch, and excitement. You can read more about that here.
Today in this video we explore the communication style of the Enneagram 6. The Loyalist. How: 1).The 6 communicates at work and home; 2). How to speak their language of a 6 at work and home; and 3). What 6 needs the most from us. Watch the video for a detailed account of the communication style of the 6.
How the 6 Communicates
Generally Style 6 communicates in a friendly way, they want to connect around the normalcies of life and work. There can be an evaluative tone to their speech, as if they are trying to understand something completely. When discussing a situation, they often want to talk through the pros and cons of a particular action, and especially what could go wrong and how to avoid that. Depending on their anxiety levels, they may need to also talk through their trepidations.
How to Speak The Language of the 6
The best way to speak to a 6 is with patience, and referencing them back to what they know. They spend more time analyzing situations than most other types do, and this can be a source of frustration for some, so patience is important for communication. 6s are often verbal processors as well, despite having such active and busy minds, it is not uncommon for a 6 to find clarity through a conversation. The journey of a 6 is all about trusting their own judgment, so as you explore the up and down sides of an issue, keep referring back to what the 6 knows to be true.
What a 6 Needs Most From You
What a 6 needs most from you is encouragement. You may know that the virtue, or the quality 6s display at their best, is courage. Encouragement is the act of loaning out your own courage or strength of heart. 6s often struggle to believe in themselves, they benefit from your support and goodwill to take their next steps.
Those of you out there that are style 6s or have to communicate with them frequently, any tips you would like to share?
